I love a hotel bed. There’s something about fresh white linen and fluffy pillows; I can’t seem to get out of bed the next day. What’s even better, hotel breakfast! You can’t deny that waiting for the chef to prepare your eggs is far better than slaving over a hot stove.
When I was invited to spend the night at The Lakes Hotel and Conference Centre, my bags were packed before my confirmation was sent! My sister and I, two excited girls arrived at the hotel and immediately slipped into vacay mode. Nestled on the Swan Lake, this venue is perfect for birthdays, conferences and even weddings – the beautiful flora lends itself to an ideal garden wedding venue.
Once settled in our room, we were given the grand tour of the hotel and it’s abundant offering. From the lush gardens to the tranquil day spa – the hotel caters for every desire. Furthermore, the facilities extend to a tennis court as well as the neighbouring golf course.
Fatima and I enjoyed refreshing mocktails in the garden as we watched the sun set over the horizon. Post sunset, we relaxed for a bit and later, got ready for a night at the vibrant Cielo restaurant and lounge.
Fashioned around a Greek-style beach club, the restaurant was airy and well-lit. The decor was minimalistic and quirky with little pot plants on the tables made of wooden slabs. This venue is ideal for sundowners with friends and on occasion, they host some pretty rad ‘beach parties’ with leading South African Djs.
Dinner was a treat as the staff were friendly and prompt in serving us. We enjoyed a delicious seafood meal with some home-style malva pudding to end off the night.
After dinner, we decided to digest our meals by taking a stroll around the property. Things look so different at night with the lights on so we went around to admire the view. It is truly amazing how beautiful this city is!
I’m sure this is uncommon but one of my favourite things to do at a hotel is sit in bed and watch the news – that’s exactly what I did until I fell asleep!
The next morning was a truly spectacular day – the weather was sunny and despite the difficulty of getting out of my comfy bed, I got up and made my way to the restaurant once again where they had a sumptuous spread awaiting…
I started off with some muesli and yoghurt and quickly made my way to the cakes and pastries with a cappuccino. Needless to say, I left the table feeling satisfied and a few kilos heavier.
Overall, my stay was excellent and I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the month. I think everyone should have a staycation once in a while. It is good to get out of the house even if you can’t leave the city!
